Watmough Bay, Lopez Island

One of my favorite spots on Lopez Island is Watmough Bay. Visiting in the winter has the advantage of few tourists which can make the place seem like it is all yours. After driving down a narrow, dark winding road, you walk a short trail and come out onto a narrow beach with thick, mossy woods on one end and a wall of rock on the other. It feels remote and magical, ancient, mysterious and timeless. I feel as if I could be on any coast above the 48th parallel.
